Explore the island of Oleron on a camping holiday
TheIle d’Oléron is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Charente-Maritime, where it forms part of the Charente archipelago. At 30 km long and 12 km wide (at its widest point), it is the largest island in mainland France after Corsica, and is nicknamed ” Oléron, La Lumineuse ” for its high level of sunshine.
On the continental side of the island, renowned for its calm, safe waters, come and enjoy the beach 2800 meters from the campsite in St Georges d’Oléron , with a breathtaking view of the famous Fort Boyard.
You can also take a sea trip!
Just 3000 m from the Oléron Loisirs campsite, the port of Le Douhet, one of the liveliest spots on the Ile d’Oléron, will delight you with its restaurants, bars, discos and water sports (sailing, jet skiing…).
In July and August, take advantage of the Shuttle to go to the beach or visit the island!

The Ile d’Oléron is rich in monuments and gastronomy!
As soon as you cross the Pont d’Oléron, you’ll see Fort de Louvois (or Fort Chapus) opposite the Citadelle du Château d’Oléron, a historic monument on the eastern side of the island, accessible on foot at low tide and now home to the Oyster Museum.
At the northern tip of the island, near Saint Denis d’Oléron, the Phare de Chassiron, France’s oldest lighthouse still in operation after Cordouan, houses a museum on the theme of traditional fishing in its rotunda.
When visiting the area around the campsite on the Ile d’Oléron, don’t miss a visit to La Cotinière. The village of La Cotinière is home to a harbor with a fleet of around a hundred boats fishing for sole, sea bass, langoustines and other noble species.

Enjoy the Charente gastronomy
The Bassin de Marennes-Oléron is the most importantoyster refining center in France and even Europe. So it’s hardly surprising to come across the colorful little huts dotting the island. A stay on the Ile d’Oléron is the perfect opportunity to savor this unmissable specialty!
Viticulture is also the oldest traditional activity. The local specialty is Pineau des Charentes, vin de pays charentais, Cognac and other liqueurs! You can find all these products at the many markets on the Ile d’Oléron.
