– According to one account, the Romans (sailors) called this area “les Pictons Pôs”.
The Gauls, in using this expression, pronounced the word “Pôs”, which was then distorted into “Fôs”.
Over time, this expression was transformed into “Faute”, hence the name of the town; – Another legend has it that the lord of Talmont, after having a romance with a young girl, gave the future baby a large portion of the land that makes up the village as a dowry.
